3. The Conjuring

Based on a true story of the infamous paranormal investigators Lorraine and Ed Warren, The Conjuring tells the tale of the Warren’s visit to a secluded farmhouse where a family is apparently being terrorised by a dark presence.

Released in 2013 and starring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, The Conjuring is one of the best horror films of recent years. It has so far churned a spinoff, Annabelle, and its sequel, The Conjuring 2 is currently showing at cinemas.
