1. Martyrs

If there’s one thing that the French are really good at, it’s making horror films, and Martyrs is testament to that. This isn’t the watered-down recent Hollywood version; the original Martyrs released in 2008 and to this day remains one of the most shocking pieces of film I’ve ever seen (and I studied Extreme Cinema at degree level).

Martyrs is not a film for the faint-hearted, but if you can stomach a bit of terror and gore then this is a surefire classic that deserves to be in your library.
